Brumby Proud of Conscience Votes

The Victorian Premier, John Brumby has thanked all Members of Parliament for their conduct during the recent passage of two contentious social reform bills. A bill to decriminalise abortion passed the parliament in October, and last night MP's voted to broaden access to IVF technology.

The Attorney General, Rob Hulls says while the bill helps women, it is really aimed at helping children.

"We know that families come in all shapes and sizes," he said. "It is absolutely crucial that we do what we can to ensure that kids aren't discriminated against regardless of the family arrangements in which they find themselves."

The Victorian Government has again failed to protect children so that they don't find themselves in dysfunctional families in the first place. Instead of protecting children from these “family arrangements" they have encouraged it by passing this law.

Victorian Premier John Brumby said the legislation, which was subject to a conscience vote, was about respecting diversity of families and not passing judgment.

It’s about respecting that there are different types of families in our society,” he said.

But we should pass judgment Mr Brumby. If any social arrangement makes a family then so does two pedophiles. Do you really want pedophiles raising children? Not all so called “family arrangements” are good functional families, some are dysfunctional. Some families may be diverse but not radically dysfunctional as in two men or two women.
