Secular Heretic telling the news as it really is.
Well the current vote is about 70/30 in favour of maintaining abortion not being legalised. However, large surveys show that the vast majority of the public is pro-legalisation.Just out of curiosity, how would you feel about making it illegal for doctors to treat schizophrenia with drugs? I personally think treating mental illness with drugs is a good thing (just as not being stabbed to death by a schizophrenic because the voices in his head told him to do it, is a good thing). Do you want the beliefs of a vocal (and ironically mentally unstable) brainwashing minority group like Scientology to start influencing your life? I don't - and likewise I don't like other vocal minority brainwashing religious groups trying to influence my life and the law.As unpleasant as abortion is, you do not have the right to deny somebody the decision to have one.
I agree with you that abortion is unpleasant. I find it unpleasant because it brings about the death of an unborn child. Why do you think abortion is unpleasant?
Richard, bad example. If a schizophrenic was to try and stab one of us ADULTS we would be able to defend ourselves to the best of our ability. An unborn baby does not have that choice. It is innocent and helpless and we are to stand against the violence towards the helpless.how would you feel about dropping all current laws that provide protection to kids from pedophiles? Shouldn't the pedophile have the right to choose what he does?
It's not about denying someone the "right" to have an abortion, it's about denying someone the "right" to murder un unborn child and if you haven't realised it, that unborn child is a human being, a life, a person.

The laws of society must respect the dignity of all human beings without exception. The very moral foundation and well being of a society depends on laws and institutions which respect the moral dignity of all human beings.
